Advanced QoS Provisioning in IP Networks : The European Premium IP Projects
نویسنده
چکیده
This article describes the current evolution of QoS architectures, mechanisms, and protocols in the Internet, as it is ongoing in the framework of the European Union funded research projects on premium IP networks. A short review of the proposed standard approaches to QoS (e.g., differentiated services, integrated services, and label switching technologies) is given. Then we focus on the state-of-the-art architectures, mainly based on DiffServ concepts. Several issues arise when trying to implement these architectures in the real world: QoS aspects, network monitoring of the offered QoS, and end-user control of received QoS. The article then discusses the existing results and the current direction of European research and development in these areas. Advanced QoS Provisioning in IP Networks: The European

متن کاملProject Title : SEQUIN Deliverable D 2 . 1 - Monitoring and
SEQUIN investigates methods for providing QoS differentiated services over the IP-based networks such as the GÉANT network. Initially, the project defined a framework for supporting IP Premium service and described the procedures for establishing Service Level Agreements (SLAs) amongst networks such as GÉANT and the NRENs. In succession, SEQUIN investigates methods for monitoring the network be...

This paper presents an overview of the advanced transport-based accounting management in IP networks with differentiated services (DiffServ). We first provide a survey and taxonomy of accounting management functions, including metering, pricing, charging, billing, payment and information provisioning. An overview of pricing models for DiffServ networks has been presented. We also consider IETF ...

The project Broadband Radio Access for IP based Networks (BRAIN) is a European project focusing on the provisioning of wireless IP services with fixed network Quality of Service (QoS) support over a HIPERLAN/2 air interface. This paper proposes a generic interface for controlling the QoS features of wireless link layers, discusses the related requirements and design issues, and investigates a p...
متن کاملAn Intelligent Agent Based QoS Provisioning and Network Management System
The DiffServ architecture provides a scalable mechanism for QoS introduction in a TCP/IP network. DiffServ model is based on the aggregation of traffic flows at an ingress (or egress) point of a network and the IP packet marking for different priority flows, according to several classification criteria. Two approaches exist in the DiffServ architecture: the Absolute and the Relative. In Absolut...
